When we reopened the doors to The Yew Tree in early 2024, we knew we had something special on our hands – but we never expected this.
You lovely lot have helped us climb the ranks on TripAdvisor to become the top-rated place to eat in Keswick, and 2nd best across the whole of the Lake District. That’s out of hundreds of incredible restaurants, pubs and eateries. We’re a bit stunned… and a whole lot grateful.

This one means the world to us, because it comes from the people who matter most – you. TripAdvisor is powered entirely by real customer reviews, so to be rated this highly so soon after reopening is nothing short of incredible.
We now sit just behind the brilliant Boardwalk Bar & Grill in Bowness-on-Windermere, and ahead of some real foodie favourites including The Secret Garden in Pooley Bridge, Fellpack in Keswick and Billy’s Bar in Hawkshead.
Not bad for a little hidden pub at the bottom of Honister Pass, eh?
So, what’s got everyone talking?
Here’s what people are saying:
“Impeccable Sunday Roast… one of the best I’ve ever had. Massive beer garden with a lovely beck running through it. A must-visit!”
– Dick H, TripAdvisor
“Quite honestly, the best Sunday Roast we’ve ever eaten – and we’ve eaten a few!”
– Jess, TripAdvisor
“Absolute gem of a proper pub. Gorgeous setting, delicious food, and welcoming staff. Salted caramel tart was one of the tastiest desserts I’ve had.”
– Ben T, TripAdvisor
We’re fast gaining a reputation for our proper Sunday Roasts, and we’re quietly proud of that. But it’s not just the food – we think it’s the full experience that makes it.
You’ll find us nestled in the tiny hamlet of Seatoller – a quiet corner of the Borrowdale Valley with fell walks in every direction and a river that babbles right through our beer garden. Dogs are welcome, the food is homemade and locally sourced and the beer garden? Well… we’re biased, but we think it’s one of the prettiest in the Lakes.
A little bit of history, a lot of heart
If you’ve been before, you’ll know The Yew Tree isn’t new. The building dates all the way back to 1628, making it one of the oldest pubs in Cumbria. For years, it was known locally as the Ham & Eggs Restaurant, and many of our regulars have fond memories of meals here with family.
It stood empty for some time before we took the leap to bring it back to life in 2023 with a full refurbishment. It’s been a proper passion project – driven by a love for good food, local ingredients and real Cumbrian hospitality.
So whether you’ve joined us after a walk, stopped off from the Coast to Coast, or made a special trip for a roast and a pint – thank you for being part of this journey with us.
This is only the beginning – and we can’t wait to welcome you back again soon.
Want to experience it for yourself?
Book a table or just pop in for a pint and a nosey round – we’ll have the fire on if it’s chilly and the garden waiting if the sun’s out.
